Warner Home Video (WHV) is proud to announce a special edition DVD of the timeless animated classic "The Iron Giant" on September 7, 2004. Loaded with all-new special features -- including 8 "never-before-seen" scenes, including an alternate opening, all with director commentary, 13 mini-documentaries highlighting key sequences and a featurette, "The Voice Of The Giant," hosted Vin Diesel. This version, which truly enhances the classic animated tale of a boy and his robot, will be available on DVD for $19.97 SRP.

"The Iron Giant," featuring an all-star cast which includes Jennifer Aniston (TV's "Friends"), Harry Connick Jr. (TV's "Will and Grace") and Vin Diesel ("Chronicles of Riddick," "XXX"), premiered theatrically to outstanding critical acclaim. The Wall Street Journal's Joe Morgenstern called the film "an instant classic that will enchant earthlings for decades to come"; and USA Today said, "("Iron Giant") lifts the genre to higher orbit." Proving the critics right, "The Iron Giant" has sold more than 4.5 million videos and DVDs to date, received 9 Annie Awards, including Outstanding Achievement for an Animated Theatrical Feature, and has a still growing fan base.

DVD Features 8 Never-Before-Seen Scenes, Including Alternate Opening and 13 Behind-the-Scenes Mini-Documentaries

Additional special features on the DVD include scene-specific commentaries by filmmakers; a motion gallery of original animation; a letter from Ted Hughes, author of the original book upon which the film was based; DVD ROM access to the original web site; and "Easter eggs" revealing the behind-the-scenes filmmaking process. This DVD version of "The Iron Giant" is presented in an all-new digital transfer, a 16x9 widescreen format, English and French Dolby 5.1 surround sound audio and has English, French and Spanish subtitles.

"The Iron Giant" follows the incredible adventures of young Hogarth Hughes, who late one night discovers and befriends an enormous robot fallen from the stars. But Hogarth now has a very big problem: how do you keep a 50-foot-tall, steel-eating giant a secret -- especially when there's a nosy government agent asking questions in town and the combined land, sea and air power of the U.S. military mobilizing to demolish the "alien invader"?

Iron Giant - ziemlich unbekannter und unterschätzter, aber sehr guter Animationsfilm. Sehr gut für Kinder geeignet. Animation ist nicht sooo prickelnd, aber die Story hebt es alles wieder raus.

Mal schauen, ob es eine deutsche Fassung geben wird, damit auch Kinder ihn sehen können.

Sehen können sie ihn, denn es gibt ihn ja bereits als deutsche DVD, sogar recht günstig...das Bonusmaterial der SE wird die wohl weniger interessieren...

Die Animation fand ich persönlich sehr gut, das Character Design hatte den Warner-Stil mit einem Hauch 50er-Jahre-Stil verbunden...THE IRON GIANT ist IMO der unterbewertetste ("abendfüllende") Animationsfilm überhaupt...Brad Bird, der jetzt Director für THE INCREDIBLES ist, war dies auch schon bei THE IRON GIANT...da fällt mir noch eine ganz witzige Sache ein, die mir Enrico Casarosa erzählt hat...(Enrico ist Storyboard Artist bei PIXAR)...Brad Bird fragte ihn "Got a life insurance? Because my film will kill you!" Hehehe, nichts anderes erwarten wir von Brad Bird...

Kennt ihr Pete Townsends Rockoper? Würde ich gern mal wieder hören, muss auf irgendeinem alten Tape in einem alten Karton schoren...

Update: On top of WB announcing that the DVD would come in a "keep case" instead of their trademark "snappers", the DVD has been delayed again--this time till November 16th. This new date put it's a whole nine days past the opening of Brad Bird's new film The Incredibles.
