Trickfilm-Festival Stuttgart 2012

Vom 8. - 13.5.2012 findet in Stuttgart wieder das Trickfilm-Festival statt. Unter anderem wird Jean-François Laguionies "Le Tableau" gezeigt werden. Laguionie begann Mitte der 1960er Jahre mit Kurzfilmen. Einer meiner Lieblingsfilme aus dieser Phase ist "Une bombe par hasard" (1969). Seit Mitte der 1980er Jahre dreht Laguionie Langfilme. Zum Inhalt von "Le Tableau" heißt es auf der Festivalseite:

Die Toupins (fertig gezeichnete Figuren), die Pafinis (Figuren, bei denen noch die Farbe fehlt) und die Reufs (noch nicht gemalte Figuren) leben in einem unfertigen Gemälde zusammen. Die Toupins fühlen sich hier als die Überlegenen und wollen die Macht an sich reißen, indem sie die Pafinis aus dem Schloss jagen und die Reufs versklaven. Ramo, Lola und Plume sind überzeugt davon, dass nur der Maler die Harmonie des Gemäldes wieder herstellen kann, und machen sich auf die Suche nach ihm.

Im Kurzfilmwettbewerb wird Isamu Hirabayashis "663114" gezeigt. Der Film ist eine Reaktion auf die Geschehnisse in Japan im März letzten Jahres.

The title looks like a code, but it is actually a collection of significant numbers. The Fukushima disaster occurred 66 years after the dropping of the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 3/11 marks the date of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, and 4 are the number of reactors that were damaged at Fukushima Daiichi.

Der Film lief auch schon im Februar auf der diesjährigen Berlinale in der Sektion "Generation" und bekam dort eine "lobende Erwähnung".

Im Rahmenprogramm wird "Faruza", eine 21minütige Puppenanimation von Katariina Lillqvist gezeigt werden. Wer mit Lillqvist nicht vertraut ist, sollte hier mal reinschauen:

In "Faruza" geht es um das folgende:

Faruza is a medieval story of an isolated island kingdom in the Red Sea, where the rulers abide by a strict law: the women must wear a copper mask from the day they turn twelve until the day they die. The law makes the lives of the island's fishing families difficult in many ways: The families can afford the mask only after several years of saving, and because they are weighed down by the heavy copper, the women can't take part in fishing on the stormy sea.

As her birthday approaches, Faruza, the daughter of a poor fisherman decides to rebel ...

Wie kam die Regisseurin zu diesem Sujet?

I started to plan the project eight years ago while visiting Teheran. It was still during the regime of president Mohammad Khatami, and althought the atmosphere in the area was full of tension those days - the US warcraft was already taking off and aiming towards Baghdad - I had very inspiring discussions with my local colleagues and animation students. Those days, the Iranian intelligency still had big hopes for the more liberal future: even the risky issues like the position and legal status of women in the Islamic society were constantly topics of passionate discussions.

Auf diesen Film hatte ich schon unter "Anime News" hingewiesen: "Momo e no tegami (A letter to Momo)" von Hiroyuki Okiura. Es ist Okiuras zweite Regiearbei nach "Jin-Roh" (1999). Letzteren hatte noch Mamoru Oshii geschrieben. Seinen zweiten Film hat Okiura selbst geschrieben. Und schon findet man einen ganz anderen Ton. Zum Inhalt des Films heißt es auf der Festivalseite:

"Liebe Momo", das ist alles was auf dem Brief steht, den ihr Vater ihr hinterlassen hat. Mit ihrer Mutter ist Momo aus der Stadt aufs Land gezogen, in ein kleines altertümliches Dorf inmitten der Natur. Doch Momo wird die Frage nicht los: Was wollte ihr Vater im Brief schreiben? Eines Tages entdeckt sie auf dem Dachboden ein uraltes Buch und nichts ist mehr, wie es vorher war.

Rosto ist ein niederländischer Künstler, Musiker und Filmemacher. Sein neuestes Werk heißt "The Monster of Nix" und läuft im Kurzfilmwettbewerb.

"The Monster of Nix" is a 30 minute long animated musical which tells the story of Willy, a troubled boy who fights the destructive force of an all-devouring monster in the village of Nix. The dark fairy tale is as compelling and visually overwhelming as Rosto’s previous films, but this time it’s suitable for kids from 10 to 100.

Im Rahmenprogramm läuft in der Rubrik "Jüdischer Animationsfilm" Ann Marie Flemings 15minütiges Werk "I Was a Child of Holocaust Survivors" (2010). Dieser Film beruht auf dem gleichnamigen Buch von Bernice Eisenstein (2006), das auf deutsch unter dem Titel "Ich war ein Kind von Holocaust Überlebenden" erschien.

In dem Buch, das auch grafische Elemente enthält und daher teilweise als "graphic novel" bezeichnet wird, geht Eisenstein auf Spurensuche: Wer sind meine Eltern? Wie haben sie den Holocaust überlebt?

Die Künstlerin Ann Marie Fleming hat dies in vierjähriger Arbeit in einen äußerst beeindruckenden Animationsfilm umgesetzt. Webseite der Regisseurin:

Als bester Kurzfilm wurde "Posledny Autobus" (The Last Bus) von Martin Snopek und Ivana Lauĉikova ausgezeichnet. Der Film ist eine Mischung aus Real- und Trickfilm.

It’s the start of the hunting season. The animals of the forest board a small bus and flee to safety. When hunters stop the bus in the middle of the night, its passengers reveal their true natures in fear for their lives.
