Annecy Filmfestival 2013

Der erste "Berserk"-Film lief letztes Jahr noch außer Konkurrenz. Der dritte und letzte Teil ist auch bereits fertig. "Jasmine" ist ein animierter Dokumentarfilm. Er erzählt von einer unmöglichen Liebe im Iran. Regisseur Alain UGHETTO gewann bereits 1985 einen César für seinen Kurzfilm "La Boule".

"Ma maman est en Amérique, elle a rencontré Buffalo Bill" beruht auf der Graphic Novel von Émile Bravo (hier). Enzo D'ALO, der Regisseur von "Pinocchio", ist in Deutschland u. a. für die Filme "Der blaue Pfeil" und "Wie Kater Zorbas der kleinen Möwe das Fliegen beibrachte" bekannt. Und nun zu "Uma História de Amor e Fúria":

"A Story of Love and Fury" is an animated film revolving around the love between an immortal hero and Janaína, the woman he has been in love with for 600 years. Luiz Bolognesi has set the story in four phases of Brazil’s history: colonization, slavery, military regime and the future, in 2096, in the midst of wars for water.

I originally made four shorts for a music channel, kind of like MTV, using motion capture, with different lead characters in each one: Dracula, a ninja, Christ and an anatomical model of the human body. The anatomical model was the funniest one and I made a six-minute version of that. My idea at the time was to make a series of short animations, a bit like Mr. Bean, based on the naked anatomical model. I showed it to a lot of producers I knew and they convinced me it would be better to make an animated feature out of it.

"It's Such a Beautiful Day" ist ein Zusammenschnitt von drei kürzeren Filmen um eine Figur namens "Bill". Der erste war "Everything Will Be OK" (hier). Forrest Wickman schreibt über den Film:

Most of It’s Such a Beautiful Day takes place in Bill’s mind, as it slowly falls apart. What exactly is happening to Bill? For most of the movie we’re as confused about that as he is. Bill imagines a monstrous fish head feeding on his skull, and soon the guy at the bus stop next to him has the head of a cow. But the effect is a harrowing and darkly comic portrait of the unraveling of a mind, whether through psychosis, or, as others will relate to it, senile dementia.

"One Piece Film Z" ist bereits der zwölfte Film im "One Piece"-Universum. Übersicht: hier. "Persistence of Vision" ist ein Dokumentarfilm über Richard Williams' nie wirklich vollendeten Film "The Thief and the Cobbler" (hier). Zu "The Legend of Sarila" heißt es auf der offiziellen Webseite zum Film:

Far North. Autumn 1910. An encampment of Inuit nomads is threatened by famine. The situation is dire as day after day the hunters return empty-handed. Unknown to anyone, the tribe’s shaman Croolik has embraced the dark arts and this is the true reason behind the disappearance of all the animals. A woman wakes up from a dream facing a stranger who claims to be her husband. "Darling" deals with loss, intimacy as well as alienation, helplessness and despair, but also hope.

Georges SCHWIZGEBELs Film "Romance" lief letztes Jahr noch außer Konkurrenz. Jetzt hat es der Regisseur (hier) berechtigterweise in den Wettbewerb geschafft. In einem ähnlichen Stil wie SCHWIZGEBEL arbeitet Robbe VERVAEKE:

Norman stares too hard. He is obsessed by small details and strange habits. Nervous and alone he wanders the city. You have to watch out for strange people. Who knows what they are capable of.

Absolut klasse ist "Dji. Death Fails":

Dji is an unusual death. The Dark Knight has appeared in a different form. No, he is not white and fluffy. Dji is just terribly unlucky. All he has to do is to take the soul of a dying man. But the screenwriters prepared some obstacles for Dji. Will he manage to overcome them? You'll see.

A love story between two people who each have a secret to hide. One is a pro-wrestler, the other a nun. When the two meet in the ring, something magical happens. Losing never felt so good.

Sung Gang LEE ist insbesondere bekannt für den Langfilm "My Beautiful Girl, Mari". In "A Monster in the Reservoir" geht es laut Festivalseite um das Folgende:

A monster lives alone in a reservoir surrounded by mountains, but no one knows of its existence.

"Palmipedarium" lief bereits letztes Jahr unter dem Titel "Das Entenmonster" auf arte. Der Sender beschrieb den Film wie folgt:

Simon lebt in einem kleinen Haus in der Nähe von einem Moor. Er verbringt seine Tage damit, mit den Enten zu spielen, sie zu füttern oder ihnen Angst zu machen. Eines Tages nimmt sein Vater ihn mit auf die Jagd ...

Sehr gerne würde ich den neuen Film von Altmeister Jirí BARTA sehen. Der Film läuft 14 min 05 sec und ist damit einer der längsten Kurzfilme im Programm.

"Yuki Onna" is a legend of a Snow Woman, whom a young boy Minokichi meets deep in the mountains under tragic circumstances. His friend Mosaku freezes to death, but the Snow Woman spares Minokichi’s life, under the condition that he won’t tell anyone.

Acis is a human who has become a river. He witnesses the clashes between the gods and mortals: Actaeon and Diane, lo and Jupiter, Hermaphroditus and Salmacis, Ino, Athamas and Juno.

Der Maler und Zeichner Vuk JEVREMOVIC dreht schon eine Weile auch Animationsfilme (Filmografie: hier). "Toteninsel" ist inspiriert von Kafkas "In der Strafkolonie". Zum Inhalt des Films:

A soldier is about to be executed because of his disobedience. The execution will be carried out by an ancient machine which engraves a sentence (the committed crime) on a man's skin.

After World War II anthropologists discovered that an unusual religion had developed among the islanders of the South Pacific. It was oriented around the concept of cargo which the islanders perceived as the source of the wealth and power of the Europeans and Americans. This religion, known as the Cargo Cult, held that if the proper ceremonies were performed shipments of riches would be sent from some heavenly place.

Zu "Uma História de Amor e Fúria" siehe Beitrag #1. "Room on the Broom" basiert auf dem gleichnamigen Kinderbuch von Julia Donaldson. Der deutsche Titel des Buches lautet etwas umständlich "Für Hund und Katz ist auch noch Platz".

"Subconscious Password" ist eine Produktion des National Filmboard of Canada. Sie mixt verschiedene Animationsstile.
