New Dutch oeuvre prize for cartoonists

The Dutch Minister of Culture Ronald Plasterk has announced a new prize for cartoonists. The Marten Toonder Prize is an oeuvre prize given to a cartoonist who has made an important contribution to Dutch culture.

The prize is named after one of the Netherlands' most famous cartoonists Marten Toonder (1912 - 2005). His most famous characters are Olivier B. Bommel and Tom Poes.

The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture will put together a committee to decide who the first recipient of the prize will be. The prize of 25.000 euros will be presented annually in March.
