Holly Swinyard: A History of Fans and Fandom: A Journey Into the Passion and Power of Fan Culture (Pen & Sword Books White Owl 2024), 160 Seiten, knapp 20 Pfund für das Hardcover

Ob hier ein künftiges Standardwerk vorliegt, kann ich jetzt nicht beurteilen, aber aus meiner Sicht verfolgt der Sekundärband über unsereins einen interessanten Ansatz.
Holly Swinyard faßt den Begriff eines Fans der Popkultur ziemlich weit, und sieht den Anfang bei den Shakespeare-Fans, die 1769 wegen des Jubiläums die erste Convention gefeiert haben. Zu den ersten Verfassern von Fanfiction zählt sie die Brontë-Schwestern, die heute zum literarischen Kanon gehören und widmet sich den frühen Fanclubs, die im 19. Jahrhundert entstanden.
Trotz des übersichtlichen Umfangs reicht die Spannbreite von Shakespeare bis zu Superman, von Dickens zu den Daleks, von Fanfiction zu Frodo.
