Japan:

2017 Sakura Medal Books (SMB)
(Seit 2006 können sich Kinder von internationalen Kindergärten und Schulen in Japan an diesem Wettbewerb beteiligen. Der Wettbewerb gliedert sich zwei große Abteilung mit vier oder fünf Unterkategorien, nämlich englischsprachige und japanische Bücher. Zum einen dient die SMB der Leseförderung, denn Kindergartenkinder sowie Schülerinnen und Schüler dürfen nur über Titel abstimmen, die sie auch gelesen haben.
Sakura | 桜 symbolisiert als Kirschblüte zum einen die japanische Kultur schlechthin. Zum anderen markiert das japanische Kirschblütenfest den Beginn des Frühlings. Insofern verkörpern die Kinder in den Kindergärten und Schulen, die lesen und schreiben lernen, den Aufbruch ins eigene Leben.
Kinderbüchern, Comics und illustrierte Bücher in jeder Form wird dabei ernst genommen, weil sie die breiten Raum einnehmen.)
