Seit gestern läuft in Brüssel das 1. Women's International Comic Art Festival (WICAF). Vom 8. bis zum 11. September läuft im Kulturzentrum
Art Base, direkt im Herzen der Stadt:
29 rue des Sables, B-1000 Bruxelles, die erste internationale Leistungsschau von Comics aus weiblicher Hand. Kuratiert wird das Festival von der Leiterin des
Art Base, der Multimediakünstlerin Emmanouela Charatsi, die von 35 internationalen Comicautorinnen unterstützt wird.

The programme of the Women International Comic Art Festival encompasses every aspect of comic art from creation to sales. The festival will attempt a global tour on women’s comic art creation, from USA to Iran and from India to Africa. A series of interactive workshops will explore gender representation in comic arts and extract lessons from female pioneers and trendsetters throughout modern history. Special focus will be given to the link between women comic artists and the industry, garnering market intelligence and trends in readership and creation.
A visionary session will put learnings into practical use. Unique side events, DJ sets from renowned artists such as Melatonini, concerts and installations will frame the programme and lead up to the exclusive symposium that will create a wonderful networking opportunity for attendees and speakers alike.
